Difference between Posts and Portfolio widgets

Hi,

Could someone please clearly explain the difference between the Posts and Portfolio widgets ? I'm lost.

Also, in the Portfolio demo, the Query section's Source dropdown list shows Galleries as a choice. What's that ? I didn't know that galleries were objects per se, like a post. Likewise, I don't understand the following statement in the Portfolio widget documentation : "The Portfolio widget does NOT work with Galleries.". What means "galleries" in this context ?

Finally, the Posts widget has a Navigation section which is not present in the Portfolio widget. Why ?

Does this mean "does not work with posts containing galleries" ?
