Why does "javascript.history.back() " not work anymore?

Hi
I've used javascript.history.back() in a Link (a-tag) to get back to the previous page.
But this does not work anymore. When I click on the link, nothing happens.

Has anyone an idea what I do wrong?
Or what's best practice to add a "back to previous page"-button?

I found a solution.
Using the Back Button Widget did the task.
But I have no idea why it has stopped working with javascript.history.back() in the a-tag.
