I cannot load an affiliate banner

I am trying to load an affiliate banner. Using the "Text widget" I load the link in text however nothing pulls through to visual as it usually does. Then if I use the "Image Widget" with the link in - custom link - it loads fine however if I put it live and click on the banner it does not go to the affiliate site but to my home page. This is of great urgency please help.
