How to prevent Elementor anchor widget from occupying space on web page - SOLVED

I manage a web site that has a page containing several menu anchor widgets. I created the page initially using Elementor's old system of sections and columns, and the anchors were invisible. I recently recreated the page using Elementor's new system of containers and now the anchors show up as blank spaces and shift other elements away from their expected locations. The page displays correctly in the editor's preview pane, but not when it is published. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?
Update: I discovered a way to solve this. Instead of using anchors, for each target container or widget, go to "Advanced -> CSS ID" and enter the identifier that would have been used for the anchor.
